2012 is the year many people think will bring the end of the world.
This is supported by many theories, like the end of the Maya calendar in December 21, 2012, magnetic poles shifting, Planet Nibiru or the alignment of the planet.
However, now NASA decided to answer all these alleged apocalyptic theories.
The Jet Propulsion laboratory of NASA presented a short video in which scientist Don Yeomans explains why most apocalyptic scenarios about the end of the world are not real.

The end of the Mayan Calendar, December 21, 2012
The theory about December 21, 2012 and the disasters predicted by some people probably comes from the so called end of the Mayan calendar. However, this calendar is not ending on December 21, 2012. This is just the end of a Mayan cycle and the beginning of a new one.
Planet Nibiru
It is alleged that planet Nibiru is four times bigger than earth. It is said that it will arrive very close to earth and it will cause all kinds of disasters. But let’s say that this huge planet is heading towards Earth. If this planet would have been real we would have seen it for a long time. This planet can avoid detection only if it’s invisible.
Thousands of astronomers from all over the world are looking at the sky each night and they have not seen it. There are people who think that NASA astronomers are hiding this information to not create panic.
Solar Storms
Some people think that end of the world will happen on December 21, 2012 because of a solar storm. Well, solar storms are real and the Sun goes through a cycle that reaches it’s peak every 11 years.
Alignment of planets
Another “end of days” theory is about the alignment of planets. There is an alignment of planets. It is supposed that the alignment of the Sun, earth and some other planets might cause disasters on Earth.
Well, first of all there is no planetary alignment on December 2012 and even if there is, it will be unable to produce disasters on Earth.
The only planets in our solar system capable of affecting the Earth are the moon, which is very close, and the Sun, which is massive but pretty close. But other planets have no affect on Earth.
Magnetic poles shifting
The reversal of the magnetic field is done from time to time, however it last happened 740,000 years ago. There is no proof that it might happen in December 2012.
And even if this shifting will occur, it needs thousands of years to complete. If this happens it will cause no problems other than the fact that we have to recalibrate our compasses.
