April’s issue of Elle magazine features a very pregnant, very naked Jessica Simpson. For one supermarket chain in the United States, it’s simply too risqué to be on display. According to reports from around the country, some Safeway supermarkets are turning the magazines around or are covering up Simpson’s picture with cardboard. A spokeswoman for the Safeway stores said that the company has received numerous complaints from customers regarding the cover of the magazine.

The decision to “censor” the view of the cover was not a directive of the company home office, though. Teena Massingill, who is the director of public affairs for Safeway, said that the magazine has been covered up by employees who are trying to deal with the complaints. Safeway has now had all the cardboard removed and the magazine turned back around.

Simpson recently said that it was her idea to be photographed naked for the photo shoot for the cover. It was very similar to the photos that were shown on other magazines of Britney Spears and Demi Moore when they were pregnant. Simpson spoke with Ryan Seacrest on his FM radio show and said that the photo shoot just seemed to be the natural thing to do. She said she’s 170 pounds and wanting to pose nude.

Simpson said that it was really funny to feel so confident when she weighed her heaviest; however, she said that she loves her body the way it now more than ever before. She went on to say that she is just taking so much in the fact that she’s a mom.

Elle magazine said on Friday that they are thrilled with the positive response to their April magazine cover. The magazine feels that Jessica is “celebrating her body” in what is a most joyous time in her life.
