The British Academy Games Awards honored the most important games released this year, but also some less popular games.
Let’s take a look at the video games who managed to win Bafta awards this year.
The special award of the ceremony was given to Markus “Notch” Persson, the creator of Minecraft.
1) Portal 2 – Best Game, Design, Story
The biggest winner of the year was Portal 2, developed by Valve, and the game won three important awards. Portal 2 received the Best game award, but also awards for Best Design and Best Story.
The Portal 2 game was released for PC, Mac, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 and offers a great experience for gamers who like first person puzzles.
2) Battlefield 3 – GAME Award, Online Multiplayer, Audio Achievement
Battlefield 3 received the only BAFTA award decided by the audience, along with two important distinctions from the jury for the multiplayer module and sound. The third Battlefield game, developed by Electronic Arts, was sold in 5 million copies in the first week since the release.
3) Batman: Arkham City – Action, Performer (Mark Hamill)
Along with the best action game, Batman: Arkham City also received an award for best performer, given to Mark Hamill, for the voice of Joker. The game developed by RockSteady Studios also has a iOS spin-off, Batman: Arkham City Lockdown.
4) Little Big Planet 2 – Game Innovation, Family
The awards for innovation and best family game were won by Little Big Planet 2. The puzzle game was created by Media Molecule and distributed by Sony.
5) Peggle HD – Mobile & Handheld
The best game for consoles and mobile devices was Peggle HD, the puzzle game developed by PopCap Games.
6) Total War: Shogun 2 – Strategy
The BAFTA award for best strategy game was given to Total War: Shogun 2, developed by The Creative Assembly and distributed by Sega, who’s auction takes place in Japan during the 16th century.
7) Tick Tock Toys – One To Watch
Developed by Swallowtail, the iPad puzzle / maze game received the One To Watch award.
Monstermind – Online Browser
Created by Bossa Studios, the construction and tower defense game for Facebook received the award for best online game.
9) Rayman Origins – Artistic Achievements
The artistic award was given to Rayman Origins, a game created by Ubisoft and released for consoles and PC.
10) Kinect Sports: Season 2 – Sport/Fitness
The award for best sport / fitness game was given to Kinect Sports Season 2 developed by Rare and BigPark and published by Microsoft Studios.
11) Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet – Debut Game
The award for best debut was given to Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, the game that combines shooter elements with exploring and puzzle. The game was only released for Xbox Live Arcade.
12) L.A. Noire – Original Music
The atmosphere of the L.A. Noire game developed by Team Bondi received 9 nominations but only a single award. The award was given to Andrew Hale and Simon Hale for the soundtrack of the game.
