Microsoft Released The Kinect Accessory For Windows PCs

Very much appreciated by Xbox 360 console users, the Kinect technology was integrated in Windows PC technology too.

The new Kinect accessory can interpret gestures from a distance of only 40 cm compared to the 50 cm on the Xbox console. Unfortunately, while the Xbox 360 version of the Kinect accessory can be purchased for only 130 dollars, the PC version has a price tag of 249 dollars.

Microsoft justifies the increased price by including some new features in the PC version of the Kinect accessory like “Skeletal tracking” and a improved voice recognition system. Furthermore, the costs of creating an accessory to be able to work on multiple systems and configurations is bigger than the ones required for creating an accessory for the Xbox 360 gaming console, which has a standard design and configuration.

Unfortunately for Microsoft, the Kinect accessory for Windows has some competition from other products like the DepthSense – a device with a similar functionality created by SoftKinetic.
