Symantec will have to defend itself in court in a lawsuit in which users accuses the company of using “scareware” tactics to sell full version products.

The lawsuits targets Norton Utilities, PC Tool Registry Mechanic and PC Tools Performance Toolkits suites of products.

The lawsuit, filed by a man from the United States might make other people who purchased Symantec products do the same thing.

The clients say that system errors, the risks for losing private date and other PC problems are announced by Symantec products, even though the problems never existed.

Scareware” type programs warn users about possible PC problems and users are advised to purchase specialized software to fix the problems. Even if Symantec programs used such tactics, proving this in court might be a problem.
