The big winners of the 69th edition of the Golden Globe Awards, are “The Descendants” and “The Artist” movies. Both movies received many nominations this year and are also the favorites of movie critics.

The black and white movie directed by Michel Hazanavicius went home with three Golden Globe awards – Best movie comedy or music, best actor and best soundtrack while The Descendants wins the Best movie – Drama and Best actor in a Drama ( George Clooney ).

The actresses most movie critics bet on this year, Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams, won the Best Actress in A Drama award ( Margaret Thatcher ) and the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy ( My Week With Marilyn ).

Martin Scorsese got the third Golden Globe of his career for directing Hugo. Scorsese thanked his daughter, Francesca, the one who made him read the Brian Selznick book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret. The award for best script goes to Woody Allen for Midnight in Paris.

Offering few surprises – maybe only at the TV categories where the big winner this year was Homeland who’s leading actress also received the Golden Globe for best actress in a tv show – drama, this year’s ceremony of the Golden Globes didn’t stand out not even through the jokes of Ricky Gervais.

One of the surprises of this year’s Golden Globe Awards is the fact that Ricky Gervais, who caused a lot of controversy last year, was this time more serious and reserved in making acid statements.

Some of the few funny moments of the ceremony were the irony about the Bridesmaids scene where the protagonists of the movie felt the need of going to the bathroom while in a dress store.
