A U.S. drone was “captured” by Iran and United States official fear that Iran might exploit the secret technology of the ultra-sophisticated device.
U.S. officials are worried by losing a sophisticated drone near the eastern border of Iran with Afghanistan, according to Los Angeles Times. The RQ-170 Sentinel has state of the art espionage technology, and the drone has already proven it’s qualities during the Osama Bin Laden operation.
The drone’s abilities are however only partially known. U.S. officials kept them a secret. The estimated costs of the drone manufactured by Lockheed Martin is 6 million dollars. The drone was initially launched in Afghanistan and it is nicknamed “The Kandahar Beast“.
Washington now fears that Iran might benefit from this technology. A Pentagon rep said that the United States is worried especially since the drone is located in a place beyond their reach.
The Iran media reports that the drone was taken down last weekend and it is now in the hands of the Iran military. The United States preferred to say that the drone landed in Iran.
It is unknown what the drone was doing in Iran. NBC News reports that the drone was in a CIA mission, but it is not clear if it was in Afghanistan or Iran.
NATO command in Afghanistan says that the drone Iran claims to have taken down was lost last week in Afghanistan.
