Rumor: Apple To Use AMD Processors on The MacBook Air ?

  • Sharebar

Would Apple use AMD Processors on the MacBook Air laptops or did they intended to do so? The rumor is impossible to confirm or deny, but it managed to cause some debates.

The people over at CNET reject this rumor while other sources claim that Apple has a Plan B that they are going to use to start using AMD processors on their laptops.

Using AMD processors ( Liano ) might be justified by two arguments: Firstly, Liano is a economic chip and secondly AMD Liano has very good graphical performances.

However CNET does not agree with this theory and they do it by quoting a review of the AMD Liano processors.

In some benchmark tests, the AMD Processor ( 1.5 GHZ – 2.4 GHZ – on a HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx ) obtained impressive graphical performances – 40 fps in Cysis DirectX10 ( DX10 ), but it failed in what matters most to Mac users. Precisely, the configuration used for testing obtained a 1,632 score in PCMark 7, 400 points less than a Core i5 ( on a Lenovo IdeaPad V 570 – 1066A9U system ).

In conclusion, Apple is considering many hardware configurations for the Macbook Air laptops however we don’t know for sure if AMD is one of them.
