The operator of the Fukushima nuclear power plant announced on Wednesday that it started to inject a blend of water and boric acid into one of the reactors, where a new nuclear fusion reaction might have occurred.
TEPCO said that the problem is at the number 2 reactor of the Fukushima nuclear power plant, which was seriously damaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
“We can’t rule out the possibility of a localized nuclear fusion reaction” TEPCO representative said.
Nuclear fusion is the process that normally happens in atomic reactions, but in a controlled way which is not the case at Fukushima.
However TEPCO says that the temperature and pressure inside the reactor have not changed considerably.
Three reactors of the Fukushima nuclear power plant were damaged on March 11.
