She died after a exorcism ritual and she inspired two horror movies – The Exorcism of Emily Rose and “Requiem”. We are talking about Anneliese Michel, a young woman from Germany, a catholic, about who it was said that she was possessed by daemons.
Her sufferings were considered psychiatric affections by doctors. Her manifestations started when she was only 16 years old and they lasted until she died, seven years later. A exorcism ritual caused her death, directly or indirectly.
Both priests who did the exorcism ritual were convinced for negligence. Although initially the exorcism was sanctioned by the Catholic church, the church later changed it’s position and claimed that the girl was suffering from a mental condition.
But many people think that the girl was really possessed by daemons, and her tomb is still visited by many tourists.
Anneliese Michel was born on September 21, 1951 and she died on July 1, 1976. Officially, she died of hunger and dehydration.
In 1969 she suffered the first epileptic seizure. Shortly after that she started to have hallucinations while she was praying and she heard voices that told her she is possessed. Before 1973, Anneliese was depressed and she was thinking to kill herself. Her behavior became more bizarre – she ripped her clothes, she ate spiders and coal and her own urine.
Between 1975 and 1976 she suffered 67 exorcism sessions – one or two each week. Eventually she died in her sleep. She had a weight of only 30 kg when she died.
