The talks about the rivalry between iPhone and Android smartphones now move to another chapter, photo cameras. Precisely, people are debating which is the best smartphone in the world when it comes to photo quality: iPhone or one of the top Android smartphones ?
Some models like Samsung Galaxy S II, T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide, Motorola Droid Bionic, HTC Sensation 4G but also compact camera Nikon Coolpix P300 aligned themselves in this “war” against the iPhone. So let’s see who wins the “battle”.
Testing Conditions
To compare the photo abilities, the smartphones listed above were fixed on tripods and each smartphone photographed or filmed the exact scene under identical light conditions.
After the photos and video captures were made, they were exposed in a single grid of images without mentioning which smartphone took what picture. The basic criteria for the comparison were:
- exposure – 25%
- color – 30%
- clarity – 30%
- image distortion – 15%
Photo Quailty – Results
In this category, T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide came in first, getting a score of 81,7, being followed by Samsung Galaxy S II with 81,4 points and Apple iPhone 4S with 81 points.
All three phones on the first positions received the “very well” mark. The forth place went to the HTC Sensation 4G with 75,1 points, followed by the iPhone 4 with 74,5 points.
Motorola Droid Bionic came in last. We have to mention the fact that the iPhone 4 is the only smartphone with a 5 MP sensor.
Exposure, Color , Clarity
While the first two failed the image distortion tests, T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide and Samsung Galaxy S II, they managed to beat the iPhone 4S by exposure and color accuracy.
T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide proved that it can shoot the clearest images and Samsung Galaxy S II had the best exposure images. iPhone 4S is the champion in the “image distortion” category.
Video Test – Quality
When it comes to video quality, Samsung Galaxy S II is the champion. The Galaxy is followed by HTC Sensation 4G and we find the iPhone 4S on the last place.
Samsung Galaxy S II video test
Nikon Coolpix P300 – video test
HTC Sensation 4G – video test
Apple iPhone 4S – video test
Motorola DROID Bionic – video test
Apple iPhone 4 – video test
T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide – video test
Conclusion
The iPhone 4S is not the best phone when it comes to photo camera. However, it got good results when it comes to image clarity.
However this test proved that there is very little difference between the photo cameras of these devices.
