On Friday, the U.S. President Barack Obama announced that the war in Iraq has ended, being one of the longest and most contested wars the United States was involved in.
Barack Obama said that the United States will recall all of it’s troops in Iraq by the end of the year. Barack Obama also said that the prime minister of Iraq was made aware of this decision on Friday.
Obama’s announcement comes after many months of debate during which it was discussed if the United States should keep armed forces in Iraq after 2011.
“After almost nine years the war in Iraq ended” Barack Obama said.
Right now the United States has approximately 39,000 soldiers stationed in Iraq.
