The mayor of New York ordered the evacuation of many hospitals and nursing homes on Thursday, asking residence to make supplies before the arrival of the Irene hurricane on the Eastern Coast of the United States on Sunday.
“Let’s prepare for the worst and hope for the best” the Mayor of New York said, ordering the evacuation of the areas exposed to the Hurricane Irene.
The Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, issued a emergency alert to allow the more effective coordination of emergency services. In New Jersey authorities also ordered the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people in the Cap May area.
Irene is currently classified as a third category hurricane, on the five levels Saffir-Simpson scale and is accompanied by wind with speeds of up to 185 km/h. Seen from space, Irene looks horrifying.
